In Year 8, students at our school continue their mathematical journey with the White Rose Maths scheme, building on their foundational knowledge. They deepen their understanding of algebra, working with more complex expressions, equations, and sequences. Students explore ratios, scales, and proportional relationships in greater detail. In geometry, they study transformations, similarity, and congruence, and tackle more advanced perimeter, area, and volume problems. Probability and statistics are further developed, with an emphasis on data interpretation and representation. Our curriculum ensures students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, setting them up for continued success in maths.
-
In Year 8, our students build on their scientific knowledge with the Collins KS3 Science curriculum, diving deeper into biology, chemistry, and physics. They study human health and disease, photosynthesis, and respiration in biology. Chemistry lessons cover the periodic table, chemical reactions, and acids and bases. In physics, students explore motion, pressure, and more complex concepts in waves and energy. Our curriculum encourages critical thinking and experimentation, helping students make connections between scientific concepts and the world around them.

Additional Subjects
-
Year 8 students delve deeper into the curriculum, studying the development of modern societies, key revolutions, and influential historical figures. This year focuses on enhancing critical thinking skills and understanding historical contexts.
-
In Year 8, students deepen their geographical knowledge by studying more complex themes within the "Progress in Geography" curriculum. They explore global issues such as population dynamics, urbanisation, and development. This year focuses on understanding the human and physical factors that shape our world, including the impact of natural hazards and resource management. Through case studies and practical activities, students enhance their analytical and evaluative skills.
-
Year 8 students at our school expand their computing knowledge with a focus on practical applications and deeper understanding. They study vector graphics, learning to create and manipulate digital images. They delve into the layers of computing systems, understanding the hardware and software components. Students develop web pages and explore how different forms of data representation impact computing. They also embark on mobile app development and begin programming in Python, gaining essential coding skills that are crucial for future projects.
